This is our most sought after Volunteer opportunity. Volunteers get the chance to make a difference in the lives of families side by side with them building or renovating a home. There is no experience necessary. Our skilled Construction Manager and Volunteers trains the crews on the job. Building days are Wednesdays and Saturdays**, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Visit our Volunteer Hub for specific dates and projects.
**Volunteer building opportunities are only available when a house is being built or renovated. In between projects, Volunteer applicants will be put on a waiting list and informed when a build/renovation is scheduled.
The Administrative offices at Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity is a great place to use your data entry, filing, customer service and volunteer coordinating skills. Whether you are looking for a place to learn these skills or already have them and want to share them, we are happy to welcome Volunteers to help out our administrative team.
The Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity Restore takes in donations of gently used furniture, appliances, lighting fixtures, tools and more. These items are then sold to the public at 50%-75% off their retail value. The money generated is applied to building or renovating homes for partner families. The ReStore is a bustle of lively activity and is mainly run by Volunteers! Volunteer opportunities include driving the delivery truck, loading and unloading items, providing customer service representative, cashiering, processing donations, and administrative support.
Family Selection Committee
Join this committee which is integral to the mission of Habitat for Humanity. They both recruit and review families in need who wish to become homeowners. The Family Selection Committee holds several meetings annually to introduce our housing program to interested families and the public at large. They select families based on the families’ ability to meet the criteria set forth in the application.
Family Support Committee
All along the way, from the initial selection process to the time when the family is in their new home, our Family Support Committee is there to support the partner family. Members of the Committee meet with families regularly to answer questions, troubleshoot problems and serve as a kind, helping hand along the path to homeownership. Volunteers on this committee get the opportunity to experience their journey from living in substandard conditions to enjoying the security and responsibility of becoming a homeowner.
